Wanted: Job

Funny how looking for a job gives one a mixed of extreme emotions. At one end, you’ll feel excited in finding out that lo and behold, there are gazillions of fantastic jobs out there that you cannot wait to try out. Cabin Crew, Chef-Gardemanger, Attendant – Valet, Production Director, English Tutor, Lifeguard. Tour Guide. Pilot. Amazing. At hindi magkamayaw ang mga job search engines sa dami -- umaapaw ang Google. Even the packages the employers-slash-recruitment agencies are promising will bulge your eyes out. It’s a feel-good dreamworld out there.

At the other end, however, are the obvious: 1. you know yourself very well that you are not qualified (Requirement: 7000 hours of flying experience). 2. That some are not practical (insert Mom’s nagging tone: “You’re applying for a job as a Valet Attendant?!”). 3.That even if you can go back to the time when you were filling up college entrance forms, you do not have the talent to pass Fine Arts or Architecture or College of Music.

So are we really left with gazillion choices? Or is there just one itsy-bitsy tiny slot just meant for us out there? How do you find your place? Will it look for you as well? To whom should you ask for directions when you encountered detour? What does statistics tell us about trial and error method anyway? How many times do we have to fail in order to succeed? When do you stop thinking about your loved ones and start thinking for yourself in making decisions like this?

I feel like a four-year old kiddo joining Little Miss Philippines and trying to answer Tito, Vic and Joey’s infamous question: What do you want to be when you grow up? Kaya lang sa mga kiddos, you don't have to consider how much you will make; work location (local/overseas); how much efforts and time you have to render; how well you'll be compensated; and how qualified you are for the job.

Darn, I really want to try that Lifeguard and Fireman posts. Yeah, I have a hidden desire to be a superhero. :-I
